you will tell me it’s only

light effects

reflection

refractions

old tale—mere shadows on a screen of stone

yet I tell you

where I find myself

is not the same

today sun and water

collude

to a different end

so much so

that for my aging eyes

they make another world

ashen lid broken

and this crinkled sheet of shards and diamond dust

is out

to bedazzle

like a beauty shaking

her rippling locks

near shore water

opens shallows

clams   translucent crayfish secrets

while waves relentless heave

wear away sea walls
