Billions of people have died in flames,

for this offense or that.

Isn’t that alarming?

To be devoured by fire,

electric blue and yellow tongue

crushing bones to beautiful ashes,

while priests and monarchs wash holy biscuits

down with large gulps

of indignant pride.

How depraved must one be

to decree trial by ordeal,

to notarize torture and death

with its satanic

scorpions of false faith?

Dissing the King or the Church

led to hardship.

Even so, many

scorching deaths

could’ve been avoided

if only

the self-appointed morality gurus

of their age

had tasted

one cinnamon vibration

from the mourning dove’s

bamboo lament.
