this early september evening

earth raises the full cup

of a crown in leaf

up to the sun

charcoaled bole

shreds

fire streaks

through opalescent blues whites

so St. Clair’s west

becomes Monet

in the east

a wan full moon

comes up like rosy Venus fatigued

enveloped

in grey gauze

begins

shedding her veils

ascending

gathering her power

to blinding silver

silencing cicadas

consents to lowly crickets’ orisons
