The Anasazi in the American Southwest
Were obsessed with drawing squares, the Nordic Alsai
With circles. The small, squat people of prehistoric Spain
Blew red chalk around their hands, while the Sanskrit in India
Built mandalas around swastikas.
Today, I drew a really cool flower
In a corner of notebook paper
Wrapped radiating lines around petals
Like a Hawaiian quilt, repeating the pattern
Until it filled half the paper.
If you can’t tell, I’m quite proud of it.
