along the goat path

winding who-knows-where

our foursome

resting on a rock ledge

chewing trail mix

talking about luck

who’s lucky

who’s not

look oh look

one of us points

a wolverine loping

through gnarled dwarf conifers

sniffing like a hound

toward his next meal

in silence we witness

this chance of a lifetime

lucky us

watching him flow

as if he’s swimming

through undulating meadows

of yellow lilies

and crystalline rivulets

of glacial alpine streams
