William Meffert received his B.A. from Duke University and M.D. from Yale University. He was a thoracic surgeon in Vietnam. William has held a private practice for over thirty years and has volunteered as a surgeon in Haiti, Russia, and China.
Currently retired, he works as a carpenter for Habitat for Humanity and consult for the Stanford University Department of Surgery. A private pilot and flight instructor, his writing has appeared in AOPA Pilot Magazine. Two of his short stories have been accepted by The Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University, and others were published in Ars Medica, Crack the Spine, Helix, The MacGuffin, and The Evergreen Review. William studied creative writing with Nancy Packer and Tom Parker and is a member of the Pegasus Society at Stanford University.
